Mass Effect Legendary Edition players will be able to use the original Mako handling if they really want to.

In an interview with PC Gamer, Legendary Edition Environment Director, Kevin Meek, said the option to use the original handling for Mass Effect 1’s vehicle was included “for those people out there who do like pain.”

BioWare has implemented a number of changes to the Mako’s handling for the remaster, improving turning physics, camera controls and adding thrusters to give the vehicle a speed boost. You can see everything that has been tweaked in our article covering the Legendary Edition changes. Meek told PC Gamer that the Mako experience is “night and day” compared to the 2007 original.

However, as our feature from February revealed, some Mass Effect fans are just really keen to keep the Mako the way it was. “You’ll never get consensus – whether some people love it or some people hate it,” Legendary Edition Project Director Mac Walters told PC Gamer. “We’re making a big point of it often in marketing, but it’s a lighter touch than I think some people might think. And the optional control scheme is optional, so you can drop back and forth.”

So whether you’re a Mako apologist or not, Mass Effect Legendary Edition will let you choose the control scheme that suits your level of nostalgia when it launches on May 14 for PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
